Roz Whatling |
From London UK |
My parents moved
to London in 1952 from Suffolk. My Watlings/Whatlings originated from Horham,
Suffolk around 1650 My earliest Watling is Henry who married Dorothy
Battley (or Battlie) on 23/12/1651 in Wissett (Suffolk). He was a yeoman who
died in 1695. I am currently trying to find out about Ann Emmersonwho married
John Watling in Stradbroke on 29-10-1750. |

Mervyn Watling |
From Kent England |
Hi, my name is
Mervyn Watling, from Margate in Kent. I am a Music Teacher at a school in
Ramsgate, I am married to Joan and we have three wonderful grown-up daughters
(so the Watling name stops here!). My Watling ancestors were from farming
stock in rural Suffolk, but my great-great-grandfather migrated to Shropshire
in the 1840s. His son moved to Wiltshire and became Clerk-of-Works on the
Fonthill Estate, where my Grandfather Fred Watling was born. He subsequently
moved to Margate, where my dad, Roy Watling, came into the world. He became a
gifted musician and moved from London to North Wales, then Camberley, Surrey,
before the family moved back to Margate in the 1970s. I've been here ever
since! The family is now growing, with two wonderful sons-in-law, plus grandson
Sam. Apart from interest in Family History and the Internet, I am fully
involved in a local House Church and enjoy travel, being with my kids and
bird-watching with Joan. |

Julie Moores (nee Watling) |
From |
I was brought up
in New Eltham, south east London. My line of Watlings goes back to William
Watling (c1756-1838), a butcher who lived in Rockland St Andrew, Norfolk. I am
sure he must tie in with the other Norfolk/Suffolk Watlings but where?
William's son, Daniel Lock Watling settled in Lambeth; his son John Morgan
Watling, in the Bermondsey/Southwark area and my great-grandfather, Joseph
Charles Watling, in the Greenwich/Deptford area. |

I was born in
1971 and am the eldest son to Nigel and Rosemary who have both retired and live
comfortably. My grandpa was John and he was born in Rawlpindi, India - though
it became part of Pakistan just before he returned to England. The Indians
wouldn't let him leave for a while! One brother, Simon, lives in Jersey with
his wife, Claire, and three little Watlings: Jessica, Jamie and Sam John.
I married a wonderful lady from New York (don't hold it against her) on
21 January 2010 in China! Come summer 2010 Meg and I will settle down in
England where we will live the rest of our lives in peace and harmony. She will
continue her life as a teacher of English, and maybe the clarinet, of which she
studied classically at the New York High School of Music and the Performing
Arts - Fame! I will continue flogging (to death lol) my autobiography, Flight of a Lifetime, which is on sale and can be ordered
from Amazon or any UK/US bookshop. Of course you all know this so I'll shut
up
My family have our own tree tracing our line all the way back to the
original William c. 1440, but that line diverges from everyone else on this
group round about 1633. Prove me wrong! |
