My name is Linda and I`ve been a Watling for 37 years in September. John and I have lived in Hullbridge, Hockley for 36 years. He originates from the Walthamstow Watlings who stem from Henry Hamlet,born in Suffolk migrated to London.
I am still working on a family tree, starting circa.1700. Through this I`ve contacted a lot of other Watlings. We ave done our bit to perpetuate the revered name, having 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

My father has a brother Charles Watling, married to Cathy and have two children Laura(?/?/83) and Alyn(?/?/86). My father and uncle were born from Frank(decesed) and Cate Watling. They are all currently living in Scotland apart from myself who in the past two years have lived in Italy and Austria, now currently in the Lake district with my beautiful girlfriend Nicky, soon to become a Watling herself. I am a School Music teacher in Kent. I have four brothers and two sisters. My dad was Roy Watling, born and bred in Margate. His dad was Fred Watling. His older brother maurice had no children, and his other brother (my only remaining uncle) Douglas lives in Surrey. I am in touch with his son, my cousin Peter Watling. I am a Science teacher currently teaching in Leicestershire. I come from Coventry, my grandfather and his family having moved there from Hartlepool in the 1930's. The Watling side of our family appears to have originated in Suffolk, from Darsham and Yoxford. I have traced my Watling's back to Downham, Cambridgeshire England. John Watling born about 1756 came from Hilger, Norfolk to Downham. His son William Watling and Mary Nickolas married in Downham, Cambridgeshire, 1829. They had James married first Ann Martin then Sarah Johnson. At least two of there sons came to America, Johnson and Hannah Allass also Matthew and Mary Ann aboard the SS Arizona leaving from Liverpool on January 3, 1882. Matthew and Mary Ann are my Great Grandparents. I hope to connect with other descendants of James and Sarah.

I am orginally from Illinois now, living in Michigan USA
. My father's name was John George Watling born Oct 26 1936 died Sept 9 1994 and my grandfather's name was John William Watling born Jan 1901 died 1986 or 87. He was married to Sattabelle O'Lhughes. If my memory serves me right and I am not sure is that his fathers name was William Wilford Watling or Wilford William and was born in 1875 somewhere near London area. My cousin William Watling did most of the research back in 1971 that he traced back to a Captain George Watling. I am fuzzy on this but am interested anyone knowing of the watling line from Illinois area and further.
